Hello, my name is Ryan. I’m 23 years old, currently living about an hour south of Chicago, still feeling out where I want my life to lead. As an individual who suffers from depression, anxiety, and OCD, my goal with many of my posts is to bring awareness and understanding to mental illnesses, and hopefully help those dealing with them personally see that they’re never alone.
I’ve seen firsthand how many people interact with sufferers of mental illness, and, by no fault of their own, have no clue how to approach it. Individuals with mental illnesses are still as much “people” as anyone else, but their minds work differently, often jumping to conclusions through emotion as opposed to logic, and finding fault in each of their decisions. Through these ways of thinking, others who interact with them can often be irked, annoyed, or even hurt by these people, simply because they don’t understand that depression, anxiety, and OCD have the potential to be more in the forefront of their minds than any logical thought.
We are lucky to live in a time where more and more light is being shed on mental illness than in the past, but we would be naive to believe that every aspect of it is understood easily. Until we reach that day, it’s my goal to help raise awareness surrounding these very real problems that people everywhere face, every day.
Alongside these posts dealing with mental illness, I’ll throw in a few grab bag posts as well (for example, I’ve done some on coffee, relationships, and short stories in the past). So, on that note, thanks for taking some time out of your day to check my place out! I have a Contact Me page listed above, but I’ll also list my email here – feel free to contact me with questions, comments, suggestions, or just to talk! I’m always happy to interact with others who share my interests!
